The Road Home

The Road Home

This was based on a reference photo from a trip my family made while visiting me at school in California. We resumed our habit of road tripping and went south to Año Nuevo, where elephant seals migrate. Unfortunately we went in the off season, but it was wonderful to have a quiet walk along the sandy trail unbothered by anyone else. I loved the sweeping views and salty spray, the sight of my dad and brother communing, deep in discussion about something. We didn’t really listen to music growing up, so road trips and our hours-long dinners at home always ended up with us just shooting the breeze. At school, I happened to find an abandoned long canvas in the art studio (perfect for a panoramic painting), and I made this to remember that moment.
